In the glass

  1. Appearance

    Dark ruby.

  2. Nose

Blackberry and plum set a direct dark-fruit line, and spice is the accent that gives those aromas their interest. The fruit is plainspoken. The spice is what keeps the nose from reading as a single dark note.

  3. Palate

Dry, with a rounded mouthfeel that makes the sip approachable. The line stays dry, and the feel stays easy. Fruit and spice belong to the aroma. In the mouth the wine is dryness and roundness, and that rounded texture is the whole of its welcome.

  4. Finish

Short overall. The main flavor fades fairly quickly, and only a light residual impression remains on the palate. Blackberry, plum, and spice do not travel with it. The close leaves a trace, not a continuation.

How wine-like is it?

Blackberry, plum, and spice read as a familiar dark red. The dry, rounded palate is approachable, and the short finish is where that impression thins.

The wine

The finish sets the limit of an otherwise approachable Merlot. It is short. The main flavor fades fairly quickly, and what remains is only a light residual impression on the palate. The close does not become a new flavor, and it does not hold the one that came before. A light trace stays, still short of the persistence that would have made the expression more complete.

Dark ruby, and then the nose does the wine’s clearest work. Blackberry and plum give a direct dark-fruit line. Spice sits across that fruit and supplies the interest, the accent that keeps the aroma from collapsing into one note. The fruit is clear. The spice is why the smell is worth a second pass.

The sip is dry, and the mouthfeel is rounded. That is the approachable character: no sweetness to soften the line, and a texture that stays easy. Balance is the relation between those two facts. The fruit-and-spice nose has already set the identity; the mouth confirms dryness and roundness without adding a flavor of its own.

Pour it for the dark-fruit nose and the dry, rounded sip. The short finish is the term of the bottle.

Who it’s for

A dry red when the nose matters more than a long close.

Research notes

The English house page places Organic Merlot in the dealcoholized Organic range at 0.0% and describes house dealcoholization as evaporation with vacuum distillation. The Spanish dealcoholization page confirms an advanced removal method without naming the machine. Packshot label reads LUSSORY, PREMIUM NON ALCOHOLIC, Organic, ZERO 0,0% VOL, RED MERLOT, with EU organic and Eco marks.
