The wine
Breakaway Pinot Noir belongs to the upper tier of the nonalcoholic wine program at Weingut Bergdolt-Reif & Nett, a fifth-generation family estate in Duttweiler in Germany’s Pfalz region whose history dates to 1838. Working loess-loam soils threaded with fine limestone veins between Speyer and Neustadt an der Weinstraße, winemaker Christian Nett launched the estate’s dealcoholized wines in 2022. Where the entry-level Reverse series focuses on fresh, stainless-steel bottlings, the Breakaway line is built around fuller varietal expression and, for the reds and selected whites, maturation in wood before the alcohol is removed.
For Breakaway Pinot Noir, the estate ages the finished base wine in wooden barrels before dealcoholization. Ethanol is then removed by low-temperature vacuum distillation paired with an aroma-recovery step that captures volatile varietal compounds on specialized resins and returns them to the dealcoholized wine. The winery’s analytical documentation records the finished Pinot Noir at 0.2% ABV, with 18.3 g/L residual sugar and 5.3 g/L total acidity, bottled under screwcap in a 750 ml Burgundy-shaped bottle.
This page is an unscored research profile compiled from producer and importer documentation. No firsthand cellar tasting has been conducted by The Dry Standard, so aroma, palate weight, oak integration, and finish remain unassessed until a bottle is poured.

Research notes
Breakaway is the barrel- and structure-focused upper tier of Bergdolt-Reif & Nett's nonalcoholic range, positioned above the entry-level Reverse series. The producer documents maturing the base Pinot Noir in wooden barrels (Holzfass) before removing ethanol via Low Temperature Vacuum Distillation (LTVD) paired with the patented Solos Aroma Recovery System (ARS). In correspondence introduced by the winery on 2026-10-23, US importer Sebastian Huelck (President, Elite Wine Selections) details that Solos ARS—originally developed by Germany's FlavoLogic GmbH, subsequently acquired by Prodalim Group—uses solid-phase extraction (SPE) based on selective resin adsorption and desorption to separate volatile varietal wine aromas from the ethanol distillate and return them to the dealcoholized wine without external flavor additives. The producer data sheet (article E70) and both winery product pages list 0.2% ABV, 18.3 g/L residual sugar, 5.3 g/L total acidity, 750 ml, and German origin. The shop-linked e-label (short code ExkmsMg, ref E70) matches the 0.2% volume, 18.3 g/L residual sugar, and 5.3 g/L acidity, and declares 47 kJ / 11 kcal and 1.8 g carbohydrate (of which 1.8 g sugar) per 100 ml, with ingredients: grapes, rectified concentrated grape must, sulfites, dimethyldicarbonate (DMDC), and carbon dioxide. Producer and importer flavor copy (black cherry, sour cherry, subtle wood, fine tannins) and the importer's qualitative grape-suitability and technology tables are recorded as source context, not a Dry Standard tasting.

Where sources disagree
Sources disagree on the following points.
- ABV: The producer's E70 data sheet, both winery product pages, the shop-linked e-label, and US importer Elite Wine Selections declare 0.2% ABV. The producer webshop listing body prints 0.5% Vol. (the German statutory ceiling for alcohol-free wine). The canonical value follows the 0.2% analytical declaration.
- Origin: The producer's alcohol-free wine site states that its dealcoholized wines use exclusively estate-grown wine from Duttweiler in the Pfalz. The E70 data sheet includes a standard clause stating the product may be made wholly or partly from wine or grapes of partner winemakers. Germany and the Duttweiler/Pfalz estate address are explicitly sourced.
- Sugar: A supplied English version of the E70 sheet (PDF created May 2025) declares residual sugar 15.3 g/L and total acidity 5.7 g/L. The current German E70 sheet and e-label declare 18.3 g/L and 5.3 g/L. The canonical value follows the current German sheet and e-label; the supplied sheet appears to carry an earlier analysis. ABV (0.2%) agrees on both.
