Chardonnay
77/100
The short takePleasant enough, but muted and simple. The rounded texture is agreeable, not a fault; low flavor intensity, muted aromatic expression and limited persistence keep it from standing out. 77/100 — drinkable, but underpowered.

How wine-like is it?

The wine
Fre Chardonnay’s weakness is low flavor intensity, not its soft, rounded texture. The texture is agreeable and makes the wine easy to drink. What holds it at 77 points is muted aromatic expression, mild fruit on the palate and limited persistence: a simple glass that offers too little concentration to stand out.
Medium gold in appearance, it has a subdued nose of apple and pear, with light peach and a faint creamy note. These are recognizable Chardonnay cues, but their expression is modest. Apple and pear carry into the palate alongside subtle citrus, without gaining much intensity.
Softness is not the same as weak structure. A rounded Chardonnay can be satisfying without conventional wine’s alcohol warmth or viscosity. Here, however, the easy texture is more convincing than the flavor it carries. The fruit remains restrained, leaving a relatively simple impression rather than a developed, expressive palate.
The gently fruity close is short. Its limitation is flavor carry: the apple-and-pear character does not persist enough to extend the experience. Overall, this is pleasant enough and drinkable, but underpowered. More aromatic presence, flavor concentration and staying power would matter more than a heavier texture.

Research notes
The editor-supplied bottle labels identify FRE Alcohol-Removed Chardonnay from California vineyards, 750 ml, with less than 0.5% alcohol by volume. The back label states 18% juice and lists dealcoholized Chardonnay wine, grape juice, grape concentrate, natural flavors, sodium benzoate, potassium sorbate and potassium metabisulfite. It gives 60 calories, 17 g total carbohydrate and 10 g total sugars, including 0 g added sugars, per 8 fl oz (240 ml), with 3 servings per container. The bottle states made and bottled for Luminara Beverages, LLC. FRE's Chardonnay page says its exclusive spinning cone process removes the alcohol; the FAQ on the same page names spinning-cone columns and vacuum distillation. Grape juice and concentrate do not by themselves establish a separate production approach; the alcohol-removed wine classification is retained. Back-label aromatic and flavor descriptions are producer marketing, not the editor's tasting.
