- Light-bodied, with lemon and a touch of pine carried on clean, finely drawn hop bitterness. The malt reads as cracker rather than sugar, giving the hops a frame to stand on. Weight sits at session strength rather than a 7% West Coast IPA, and the bitterness stays crisp, never sticky or resinous. Balanced and well integrated.

- Dry and short, resolving cleanly with no worty residue. The bitterness fades rather than lingers, which keeps the beer refreshing to the bottom of the can.

The beer
Brevet IPA is an exercise in restraint, and a very good one. Judge it against a heavy West Coast can and it reads light; judge it as a session IPA and everything falls into place. Citrus peel leads the aroma over a crackery malt base, clean and moderately intense. In the glass, lemon and a touch of pine ride on bitterness that is precise rather than resinous, and the body holds at session weight without ever turning thin.
The malt is the quiet achievement. Cracker, not sugar, gives the hops something to stand on; without it the lemon and pine would float. With it, the beer has shape: hop and citrus through the middle, then a clean, dry exit with nothing worty left behind. That balance is rare in nonalcoholic IPA, where the usual fixes are residual sweetness or a sticky wall of hop extract. Halfway Crooks reaches for neither.
Anyone hunting juicy hop candy should look elsewhere. Anyone who wants the bitterness to stay beer will find one of the cleanest nonalcoholic IPAs in the cellar. Serve it very cold. Beside the brewery’s Brevet Pils, this is the hop-forward can and the pils the malt-and-snap one; they are complementary, not interchangeable. Session weight, precise bitterness, a dry finish: one can makes the case.
