The beer

Halfway Crooks brews Brevet IPA in Atlanta with the same Chiber arrested-fermentation process as the pilsner: a mushroom extract that keeps yeast static so alcohol never forms. The brewery still has not published an ABV for this can — Untappd’s 0% field is community-entered, not brewery-sourced. It is the hoppier half of the Brevet line, not a dealcoholized West Coast stripped after the fact.

On the nose, citrus peel and a crackery malt line — hoppier than the pils, still tidy. The palate carries light IPA bitterness with lemon and a little pine. Body sits closer to a session beer than a 7% IPA, and the bitterness stays clean rather than sticky. Mouthfeel is snappy without going watery; there is no worty leftover in the middle. The finish is dry and short.

Likeness holds because hops and cracker malt do the work alcohol usually would. Serve it very cold — the Metro run when the pils is gone.

Classification: Naturally low alcohol — Atlanta Magazine quotes co-owner Shawn Cooper describing Halfway Crooks' NA process as Chiber, a mushroom extract that keeps yeast static and halts alcohol production rather than removing it afterward. Craft Beer & Brewing describes the Brevet line as lager and IPA iterations of that same NA work. The brewery has not published a numeric ABV for the IPA can.
